ACL reconstruction surgery

Published

Hi,

I am a theatre nurse and I had my ACL reconstructed 5 months ago with success.

basically my question is in relation to going back to work.

i have been seen by occupational health and they are recommending a phased return over 4 weeks.

i had asked if I could take till the end of September off to work on my rehab and physio as I still don't feel that my knee is 100% as yet.

the occ health dr was of the opinion that it prob would never be 100% and that I should crack on with going back to work.

having spoke to my consultant, he told me I would continue to improve for 9 months post op so there is still room for improvement and he felt that going back to work now would hard on me.

so my question is, what are my options? I'm calling my line manager to discuss tomorrow but I don't want to go back too early and undo all the good work that has been done so far.

any help would be appreciated, thanks

No one here is in a position to offer any medical advice, per the Terms of Service, plus no one has access to your medical records, the extent of the injury and surgery and postop progress and any other involved factors, plus no one is able to examine you.

An opinion on whether you should return to work or not, and in what capacity, should be a product of discussions between you and your Healthcare Provider and NHS.

I hope this decision is arrived at by taking into account the applicable factors.

All the best to you!
