911 Access from a callcenter

Published

Our call center has just signed a contract w a very large medicaid hmo population. At times we have had the need to access 911 in a city out of our state, ie a suicide call. We have found that we have to jump through many hoops to finally access the appropriate svc in the other state. Anyone out there in a call center w a solution??? Please respond, asap.

Thanks, cab6e3

We take calls from all over the country and have this come up frequently. We dial caller's area code plus 555-1212. Immediately tell operator that you are RN calling from another location and need local EMS. Most often they will connect you immediately.

ttrn8088, thanks so much! This is what I had thought to be a solution and you have now confirmed that for me.

What is that number? Like some kind of service to connect you to any 911 service you want or what?

I just looked up, and it appears to be some national director assistance?

Specializes in SRNA.

Yep. Dialing (area code) + 555-1212 is how you dial directory assistance anywhere in North America. Most people are used to dialing 411 for local directory assitance now. If for some reason you don't have the area code of a caller, but know a city, www.areadecoder.com is a good site to quickly search for area codes by searching a city name or finding city names by searching an area code.
