I had an interview today at a hospital program, and was accepted on the spot! Official paperwork should be here next week! After being waitlisted at another hospital program and still waiting to hear from a college based program I got a letter requesting the interview.
The sample questions I found on allnurses.com really helped to prepare me. Here's what happened:
I was told to read the mission statement of the hospital (a Christian based facility) and then asked if I was comfortable with its contents. I was then asked which of the 5 character traits listed in the statement best described me and how so.
I was asked (of course) why nursing and what made you choose nursing at this time of my life.
I was asked where I stand in my prereqs.
I was asked about my support system.
I was asked what other schools have I applied to.
She then told me about requirements outside of the program outline (CPR, vaccines, physical, observation experiences and clinical experiences not fitting in the prescribed schedule (a weekend program).
MY QUESTIONS:
I came up with these at 3am this morning!
The college has an awesome pass rate for the NCLEX, what is the student retention rate start to finish?
Do your students seem happy with the program, while here and after graduating?
Do the instructors seem happy to be teaching here? (She was an instructor)
Do they make themselves available to students during the week to answer questions?
The interviewer briefly reviewed my past academic records (GPAs and related coursework). She said in most cases they defer notification of acceptance until all or most interviews were completed, but those with exemplary academic records, personal statements and interview responses are given acceptance notice on the spot. Then she said "YOU ARE ACCEPTED." (she didnt yell it)
I am thrilled, this program will allow me to continue working and allow me to tuck my kids in bed at night!
