I just recently decided to go back to school for nursing after being in the workplace (non-medical) for many years. I am looking for accelerated programs north, south or in Broward. So far I have found the following 4 options: Miami Dade College, U of Miami, Barry and FAU for accelerated programs that would start in 2010. I am going to start my pre-requesits at BCC and PBCC. I would like to do accelarated because I can only take one year off work max.
My questions are -- do any of the scholarships where you agree to work for a hospital after or student loans cover any of you living expenses while in school, or just tuition? I don't mind going in to debt, but I'm going to have to figure out where my living expenses will come from during that time. I have read the websites of all of the programs inside and out -- did most of you sit down with someone at the schools as well and talk to them to make sure you were taking the correct pre-requisites etc? I've left messages with a couple of the programs and I haven't gotten much response. And does anyone recommend any other accelerated programs in the Miami to Palm Beach area?
I'm currently leaning towards FAU - which of the 4 I mentioned above would be considered the hardest to get in to? Does name really matter when pursuing a nursing career? Thank you for any help you could give!
