Hello, I am a graduating senior trying to decide what college to go to. I have been accepted to a private college, costing $41,000 dollars a year where I am automatically in the nursing school and on the nursing track, or I could go to a california state school, where i would do my pre-recs and then re-apply for the nursing program, this would cost a lot less. I would love to go to the private school, but I do not have enough money to attend. I live in california, and plan to work and stay in california. I would love and appreciate it if anyone who has any information on tuition reimbursement or any way that I can get enough money to attend school. Thank you so much

First you need to fill out the financial aid form: http://www.fafsa.gov and then you can apply for loans. If you are a dependent then your parents will need to provide information from last year's tax forms to submit on your behalf.

Right now, there are so many people trying to get into the nursing programs that I would say if you are already accepted for a nursing school track, take it. I have witnessed first hand the paltry number of slots at the community college and state university/college levels and the over abundance of qualified students who cannot get their pre-reqs classes or admitted to a nursing program.

Many private colleges offer hefty aid packages that reduce the tuition costs to a very reasonable level. Before you nix the idea of the private school, see what they are willing to offer you in aid. You may be quite surprised at what you will get. Also, to reduce costs wherever you attend, look into becoming an RA (Resident Advisor) in the dorms. Usually you can become an RA your sophomore year. Some schools offer free room and board, but others throw in partial or full tuition too. Good Luck!

I agree about seeing how much scholarship/grant money you could get to attend the private school first.

However, that said... I will gladly tell any entering college freshman that I don't think it's a great idea to go deeply into debt just to attend a private school. States universities often offer just as excellent programs at a much more affordable price - and if you are willing to work hard and keep your GPA up, I don't think you would have that much trouble getting into another nursing program, although I'm unsure what the program loads are in California (may be significantly altered from places with which I am familiar).
