I was just wondering if anyone else has taken BIOL 1593 & 1693 online with TRU ?

I'm currently registered and am almost finished the readings and the study guide questions. I haven't done the online tests yet and have the final exam scheduled for next month. I am comfortable with the material, but can anyone give me some tips about the exams? Are they mostly multiple choice or short answer questions? Is the final exam cumulative?

I feel the course delivery is lacking structure, noone told me at what point I should be doing the online tests so I just kept going... I'm still waiting the professor to answer my questions via email, but I figured someone here might know in the meantime :) Thanks!

I've only done Biol 1593. If you are someone who likes to study independently, you will do fine :-) I enjoyed reading the material, but I found the lack of interactive content difficult. Especially for a course like A&P, I think I would have benefitted from a lab component. I would have had the opportunity to learn the material hands on and it would have helped me to visualise the material better. Honestly, I would recommend taking the course in a classroom if that's an option that is available to you. I think you will get more out of it and you would be better prepared for the nursing program.

Also keep in mind that many nursing schools will not accept the course unless you also do the lab component. It is only offered once per year in Kamloops so you would have to budget for that expense on top of additional tuition fees to register in the lab.

Anyway, the final exam was difficult, but not unreasonable. 80% of the material on the final exam is from the last 4 chapters, so just make sure you study those well!

I'm currently taking Biol 1593 at TRU Online, and am planning to do 1693 as well. LiquoriceTea is right, you need to motivate yourself and learn independently. It's basically just you and the textbook. There's a lot to remember. The good thing is that you can start the course anytime, and you have up to 30 weeks to finish the course. Plus, it's great if you're working full-time and don't have a lot of spare time. But it is for folks that need very little interaction to learn.

Is it possible to get an 'A' in 1593 through TRU? I was just looking at the reviews for 1593 and 1693 for the tutor (*******), and he seems to be getting really poor reviews. I am wanting to take the course online, but I really need an 'A' and am willing to work hard but I have come to the realization that some TRU courses will not allow for an A no matter how hard you work. Can anyone give me some advice about these classes? I would really appreciate it!

I wouldn't say that it's impossible to get an A through the online course, however I would say that it's more difficult. It's hard to learn something like anatomy only by reading the textbook. I took only BIOL 1593 online, and I did ok but didn't get an A. I decided to take the second half of A&P in person and got an A+. I found it way easier, not because the content was easier (in fact I would say that it was much more in depth) but because I just learn better in a classroom. When I think back about the questions that were on the final exam for BIOL 1593 I think "Wow those were easy, how did I get that wrong?" After taking the course in class and having the labs, it just stuck with me more. So really it depends on your learning style. If you're good at memorizing things and have taken science classes online before, I'm sure you'll do fine. I don't mind taking some courses online but for this one, the learning style just wasn't for me.

hi i am considering taking this course as well. ive heard that the online tests are okay but the exam is really tricky. What did you guys think ?

I took this course three years ago so maybe it's harder now but it was easy to get an A at the time. I doubt I would have gotten an A if I did it through UBC (where I graduated from). It's all multiple choice exams, the midterms you did at home in front of the computer (not the final though). Maybe if you had a hard tutor itd be tougher but I mean if it's all multiple choice it shouldn't matter that much. See if that's changed though. You need to just stay on schedule which can be hard :)
