I dont know exactly what happened with the whole situation about how indiana states lvn to bsn online program isnt approved by the state of california anymore. Does anyone know if there are any plans for an online lvn to bsn program in california in the near future? Is indiana state planning to have one approved? Just like most lvn's out there, we don't have time to work and attend school at the same time and would prefer to continue our education online to be RN's. Anyone know if any school is planning to have an online program?

I'm in California in search of the same. In Southern California, there's a partial online program through Western Governors University. But, I'm in Northern California. I will finish LVN school in a few months and am committed to continuing toward my RN/BSN. But it looks like my options are only to jump full time back on the community college/ state school track and work part time OR to work full time and pay out of pocket for a private school.

Online would be ideal... Though, since I have a few children and am a single mom and need to work full time as much as i want to finish my education.

I was just looking at the California BON (www.rn.ca.gov) and they don't accept any online RN programs because they require clinicals in tandem with theory. From what I've seen online courses don't offer clinicals. So short answer...you're stuck with a brick and mortar school if you want to pursue an RN.

I was looking for RN to BSN that would be approved on-line and I'm not finding those, either. Since their stipulation was needing clinicals for RN certification and that would already be obtained at the ADN level, I don' t know if they would allow RN-BSN that's strictly online. I'm still looking for that answer.

Even a brick & mortar school won't be approved if they don't offer concurrent (same semester) clinical and theory content. That's causing LOTS of problems for Nurses educated abroad - like the Philippines.

Azusa pacific offers an online RN-BSN course. It's pretty costly, but it's all online, I believe. I plan on going through their program once I'm done with my ADN :)

There are several RN-BSN programs offered online and one of the JCs (Grossmont) I'm considering even partners with one (Grand Canyon University). They suggest thier ADN grads apply to GCU upon graduating fro mthe ADN program. Since they suggested the online route and are an acredited school themselves, I originally assumed RN-BSN would be fine online and I was shopping around for prices since GCU is also pricey. Another thread on AN mentioned another online school that was quite affordable (Around $9k) but I didn't save the link so I'll have to search for that info again.

Since then, I've read several posts about folks in CA doing RN-BSN online and then when they wanted to pursue MSN, the schools they applied to didn't want to accept the BSN because it was online. It's all a pain in the tuckus. =)

As another poster mentioned, Azusa Pacific is a brick and mortar school that offers an online RN to BSN option. CSUDH as well. As such, both programs should transfer into MSN programs quite easily. Especially in area schools that are familiar with the programs. Plus, both programs offer pathophysiology and assessment in their curriculum -- which is important if NP is your goal in pursuing a Master's because both classes are usually pre-requisites of NP programs. It's important to research the requirements of schools you would be interested in applying for past the BSN in determining the right BSN program to enter.

Other well-respected nursing programs from brick and mortar universities that offer online RN to BSN options are Arizona State University, University of Texas - Arlington, and Ohio State University. I'm sure there are more if you do your research.

It really depends on what your future goals are and if you plan on going beyond the BSN that should determine what RN to BSN program you choose.

Pacific union offers a program which meets for four days every five weeks. As online really isn't an option something like this may be your best bet. Have you heard of any other schools with programs like this?
