Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, don't really know how it works, but I have a question that I need some serious help with!

I am a new RN(ADN) as of Dec 2012. I want to further my education, and don't know the best way to go about it.. Lacking some direction..

I am from Michigan and they have a school where I can get my BSN strictly online and I can work at my own pace. This I think will work out best for me since I will be having a newborn in June. I also want to keep furthering my education after that though, and don't know what fields/areas to go into. Any suggestions? I don't know if I should obtain my MSN degree in nursing(I don't know what I could do with that), or get CRNA, or just specialize as a BSN nurse? Nursing has so many things to offer.. Need some guidance please! :)

Experience will be your best option. You'll know what it is that you want to do; we can't possibly tell you what you want to do with your future. Yes, you could rush as quickly as possible to an MSN degree of which you may or may not enjoy the end result, but patience is a virtue for a reason. Once you know what it is that you want to do, you can work toward your goal, excited about the end result.

But, yes, even rewarding jobs still are not perfect. Enjoy being a nurse (though it won't always be enjoyable), but enjoy the process, learning, and how it will strengthen you. Most people say that nursing has made them stronger in one way or another; it has made me much more assertive, for which I'm grateful.

This is coming from someone who loves school. I can't wait to go back, but having been a nurse for only 2.5 years, I don't think it appropriate for me to pursue nursing education yet (which is what I want to do, fairly certain, though not completely sure yet). Once I have enough experience, I will pursue this if there is still a demand for nursing faculty; if not, then I won't throw my time and money away.

You could do the BSN portion now, though. There are RN-MSN programs, as well, so that may be of interest to you once you know what you want to do. Of course, you can do whatever you want, but I was just giving my 2 cents since you asked for it lol. Best of luck!

I understand...I'm the same way. I want to keep going, but have looked up some good quality, brick and mortar, affordable programs so that when I'm ready to go, I can. We all know nursing education isn't about the pay, so with that in mind, I can't afford to take out debt from a high price school :).

BSN is not a specialty....it is a degree that will open management opportunities and is the next step to you career goals. But it is not a specialty.
