Hi, I plan on applying for the nursing program in August, but I'll be in AP I and Micro so they will not be completed yet. My question is: Am I wasting my time applying now or should I wait until these classes are complete? Has anyone else been accepted to the program while still taking these two classes? I know the program is very competitive so my chances are slim, but any stories of people who have been accepted and the situation would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't mind paying the application fee, there's no harm in applying even if your chances are slim. If when you talk to the school and they explicitly tell you that you won't be considered, then save your money. Otherwise, the worst thing that can happen is getting denied, and you'll just apply again for the next term. The best is that you do get accepted.

I am starting the LPN-RN bridge this summer and I will tell you that 50% of your score is A&P 1 and 2 and micro. I got into the bridge program without taking micro. I am taking that with transitions to professional nursing this summer but I have heard that the regular program is much harder to get into. I would wait till you have at least 2 of the 3 science classes done. My A&P teacher said the min. score was like 1200 last semester. I hope this helps.

I am waiting for an acceptance/denial letter for the Fall 2012 sequence also!

Nurse0423 was correct in saying that 50% of the admission score consists of AP 1 &2 and Micro grades. If you want to go ahead and figure out what your score is with the classes you have currently taken, you can actually go on the GA Highlands website and find the admission score sheet they use.

I spoke with an admissions specialist at Highlands, and she told me for the Fall 2010 sequence, they accepted scores of 926-1400. For 2011 it was 940-1400. I am guessing they score everyone's applications and then draw the cutoff line at 100ish students.

I attached a copy of the worksheet. It's a little complicated, so make sure to read all the instructions. I think you have to calculate an attempt even if you haven't taken a class yet.

This should give you kind of an idea of where you stand and what you can do to bring your score up, etc.
