I have a friend who is a psychology major who suggested I go to pheonix (she's a current student) for my BSN but then I told her "I can't make those large payments while in school, I will be too busy in the nursing program to work much" to which she replied "You can get a loan through the school and pay it off after you graduate". Now, I am considering looking into it since that gives me the option to 1) not only save up, but 2)go for my BSN as I would not be able to do before if I had to pay it off while in school. I know the market is TOUGH for new grads and I know these schools are Pricey BUT I have developed a game plan so I can get a job instantly and start paying off those loans. PLUS I know that nurses without BSNs in my area (Bay area california) have a tough time finding jobs so it might be a better option to go for my BSN here rathar than my ADN and risk not being able to find a job. Plan 1. is if I chose to go to pheonix and Plan 2. is the path I am on now in comparison. Also, at the bottom are some questions I have if anyone can answer them. Thanks:nurse:

PLAN 1. My plan is to first, find a good part-time job working as a CNA at a LTC/ALF/Hospital (I am already a CNA, but the field I work in has people vieing for a new position when it comes up and odd shifts like 2 hours and 1 hour and I want a more stable 8 hour or 12 hour set shift to start on when I become a nurse). I know facilities love to hire internal canidates so I was planning to get work then transition once I get my degree. Second, I want to finish my AA Degree in Bio with emphasis in allied health at my community college (I hear pheonix let's someone transfer credits and my hope is that I can start right away on Bachelor's general education classes and my previous AA would have covered half the coursework). Third, enroll and finish the remaining degree work then do the nursing program and then make payments once school is over.

PLAN 2. Continue going to my CC and pursue my ADN. Get a job working in a LTC/ALF/Hospital before I graduate and try to transition into becoming a nurse at that facility.

Anybody do the pheonix BSN program on here?

I would not go to Phoenix. "For profit" schools just don't have the same reputation that state schools and private colleges have. I have an MBA from Argosy and it doesn't hold nearly the weight that an MBA from a state school would. It would be a big waste of money. I think you should get your ADN from your community college and then get your BSN. A lot of schools now have an online BSN program for current RNs. And it would be much cheaper, Phoenix is way over priced. You might also be able to get your employer to pay for your BSN.
