Hi Everyone,

I just got my license last December of 2008. And took my IV Therapy course afterwards. I have been looking for a job for a while now and can't seem to get one. I live in Pasco County Florida (North of Tampa), I have been to a lot of nursing homes and hospitals. Most of them require a 6 months to 1 year experience which I don't have. How can I gain experience if no one will give me a chance? I am going to be continuing my education to become an RN but would like to gain experience as an LPN while going to school.

Can someone please give me an advice on what I should do? I really want to work as a nurse. I know in my heart I am going to be a good one if given a chance.

Are you near a military installation (Base or Post) they hire new grads you can go online to civilian personnel and check in your area or try to google cpol. I hope this helps. Do not get discouraged something will come along.

Sorry you are about two hours away from South Fla. There is a LTC that hires new LPNs on a regular basis. The reason they are always hiring, is because as soon as the new nurses gather enough experience, they move on to greener pastures.

Go to one of the local hospitals and talk to the people in the nurse recruiting office. I know that Unniversity Community and Florida Hospital/Zephyrhills are both hiring. Also, if you don't mind driving, Brandon regional has a ton of positions open.

Thank you very much for your reply. Regarding military installations, there is none closeby. I wish there is, because my husband was a retired navy. LTC's are looking for a six months experience. About the local hospitals, they are requiring that I am already accepted in school for the RN program before they could hire me with no experience. The thing is, I still have to take the pre-requisites for RN before I could apply for it. I will try UCH and Zephyrhills per your advice.

I am soo there with you. I have worked in healthcare off and on since 1997 as a nurse assistant/home care aide. I went to Soldiers Home School of Nursing and graduated with a nursing diploma in 2009.

It was a very tough school program in 10.5 months, I got my license for the state of Ohio thinking maybe I'd have a better job market there...NO WAY! In 12/31/09 I had my licensed transfered to Massachusetts and I was so excited thinking, "I'd have a much better chance here, inmy home town" Well, thousands of resumes later over a 7 month span, interview after interview & I am jobless. I can't even get Welfare or unemployment! If I go back to school, I need 1500 dollars to get my transcripts so I can start the LPN to RN transition without having to take classes I have taken before all over again.

So many people that call me tell me they want experienced nurses...but then they say "how can you get experience , if no one hires you"? But they STILL WON'T hire me.

I am giving up & I hate to say that but all the tears & sacifices I made to do something I love & once I make all the attempts to better my life & getting a higher education....no one will give me a chance, a chance to grow, a chance to gain experience, a chance to prove to them that even new grads can take care of patients just as good as experienced nurses.

We are all here for the same reason, to take care of those who can't care for themselves. To help ease the pain of those hurt, to help heal others wounds & to continue to grow as nurses until the day we die.

Can I please get a job?

I will go anywhere, any state if someone gives me that chance.
