GPA Admission

Does anyone know when applying for admission, will the school look mostly at your BSN degree (I'm a second degree student) and weigh that more heavily than your OVERALL GPA? I was strong in math and sciences in college if they want to look at that, but overall my GPA in business sucks ... did enough to graduate (didn't reflect abilities and boy am I paying for it now :o ) Planning on having my BSN ALOT higher ... or will they combine and calc with BSN and first degree? Anyone know?

I think that they will weigh your GPA in the BSN more heavily. There are plenty of people who did not do as well as they could have when they first went to college. If you show them what you are capable of with the BSN it should not hurt you imo.

I know that my school weights the science courses higher, so that should help you too.

Once you are ready to apply talk to the program directors where you are interested in going, I am sure they will say something similar, but if not, choose a different school.

They'll probably want you to discuss your early lapses but most schools are realistic about people's grades. Schools have an interest in finding good hardworking students, not just ones with the highest GPAs. It will be a factor, but make yourself as attractive to them as possible. Work in a good busy ICU, take the CCRN (all the schools I interviewed at mentioned that), sit on comittees. do a 12-lead EKG class. Things like that will help fill out your resume and application.

Most schools look really hard at nursing and science grades and "glance" at the overall. Who cares how well you did in Underwater basketweaving????

underwater basket weaving! Ha Ha

I need a few more general credits, where can I sign up for underwater basketweaving? It would be better than music appreciation. Jus Kiddin Lol. :chuckle
