Now, I can't say with 100% certainty that CRNA is absolutely positively my route. But it's a strong possibility. Therefore, I need to prepare for this possibility, academically and otherwise. The past few weeks I've decided to do something about it rather than just sit here thinking about it. It's a long and daunting road, but one can only start at the beginning. So, I've arranged to take the first semester of the "hard science" chemistry (not the one for non-science majors) this summer. I've contacted the NA school I'm interested in and let them know that I'm interested. (They were very receptive, BTW). Can't believe I'm doing this!!!

Go get 'em.

I recommend (obviously) the CRNA route highly. I don't think you'll regret it.

Boy,does this sound like me! OK -- I am De-lurking --

My name is Dianna (what a coincedence!); and I'm in the Louisville, KY area. I'm an ADN prepared nurse, going back to school for my BSN -- took me 10 years to get back, sad to say! I have a background in ICU/CCU/OHRR; but am currently working for a gastroenterologist. I went from cleaning up poop to talking about it!

I did not know you could call the various programs to give them a "heads-up" that you were interested ... shows how naive I am! I'm thinking that might be a good idea -- what did you say to them?? Is it bad form to ask -- "what do I need to do to improve my chances of getting in -- the FIRST time around?"

Age related issues -- I'll hit 30 this year (argh!); and I figure I'll be done with the BSN around 32-33. That puts me in the CRNA program at 33 or so, graduating around 35. That's not too bad, since this is something that I really want to do.

Thanks to EVERYONE on this board ..... this is a WONDERFUL resource; and I'll be keeping a close eye on it in the months/years to come!

I'll be 30 when I get my BSN. If all goes as planned, I would be done with the CRNA program when I'm 34? 35? Something like that.

I initially emailed the admissions rep of the school I am interested in to tell them I was interested in their program and also to ask about the science classes most of their students had taken prior to entering CRNA school. The rep told me--without my bringing it up--that I was more than welcome to visit the campus, sit in on a class, talk with students, and meet with the director of the program to find out about what I need to do to be a strong candidate. So yes, based on my limited experience, it would be okay to ask about what would get you in the program. I don't graduate until late next year, so I'm going to wait a while to visit the school. I think it would be a bit premature at this point. But I'm glad I at least got my name out there.
