Pinning Ceremony Speech..HELP!!!

Hello....as vice president of our class, I was informed today that I would be speaking at the pinning ceremony in May. I am terrified of public speaking. I am asking for specific speech material from anyone who can help. I was told it only had to be 10 minutes....only 10!!! Oh, my goodness. I like being the Vice P but this scares me....anyone willing to help me? I am being pinned LPN and the President will hand the "torch" to me from the RN group. I will then be the President.

Thank you in advance for any advice, specific speech material or anything that could help me. I am not sure my voice will even come out of my throat through the extreme heart pounding.

Thanks,

Theresa

I am studying for a final exam right now so I don't have advice at the moment but I may be in your shoes come December, as my class representative. I'll keep my eyes on this thread and after tonight I'll see if I can some up with any meaningful ideas! :wink2:

Maybe there are some good quotes by Florence Nightingale that you could incorporate. I'm sure there's a place to find those online.

That's what I would do. If I were in your shoes, I would also think about including some things from the journey you guys have been on...maybe something funny that happened, maybe a tough obstacle that y'all overcame as a group. Hope this helps.:nuke:

I was student speaker at my pinning ceremony in Sept. I chose to speak about nurses who made a difference in my life, ones who exemplified what I felt a nurse should be, compassionate, skilled, an advocate, that kind of thing. I ended up with 4 examples, nurses who cared for my mother when she was dying, a very skilled one who really advocated for my critical sister, then my instructors (I had to incorporate a way of thanking them & I did feel that most of then were exemplary) and finally my fellow classmates, pointing out that we were there for each other during training & thanking them for help they gave each other, especially me & that this too was an example of good nurses.

Everyone seemed to be pleased. Don't worry about being nervous. Everyone does & remember that you are doing something that many people would never have the courage to do. Congratulations.
