want to travel....

I just graduated and passed my boards. I have wanted to travel the arround the US since I was in high school. I put it off to go to nursing school and now that I've graduated I learned that most travel nursing places require a years expirence in your specialty. I looked at some hospitals in my area and if highered I will be locked into a two year contract. Is this pretty standard?

Now I don't want to wait two years to do travel nursing, so what do I do?

Are there organizatins that have two week medical missions in the US?

Is there someway that I can still travel if I take a two year job at a local hospital?

Any advice for me????:uhoh3:

Check with various hospitals around you. At some hospitals it's just a year commitment. If you want to travel, most travel agencies require at least 1 year of floor nursing before they will consider you. (They don't want to train you on the basics.) If you have the option, you can always interview and move to a place you think you'd like to live. They will often hire you and pay for your moving expenses.

If you want to do a 2 week vacation, you'll have to wait a little while until you more seniority OR you can string together a bunch of 12 hour shifts in a row to get a week off. Medical missions usually want experienced nurses, so again you'll need at least of year of floor experience. Hope that helps.

Most of the travel agencies I talked to want you to have at least one year's experience in a specialty area before they would take you as a traveler.
