Ortho question - help please!!

I've been nursing for 15 years, but have forgotten most of what I ever learned about orthopaedics. Anyway, my son broke his finger yesterday, and it turns out to be a pathological #, because he has a probable "bony cyst" in his finger. Now they're talking about surgery, bone grafts, bone scans, etc. My question is: should I be worried that this may be something more sinister than what they think it is, or am I just being a paranoid, neurotic mother. Any advice from those more experienced in these matters would be gratefully appreciated.

Oh my god, that is almost identical to his x-ray!! Thanks, P_RN - I especially like the bit where it says malignancies in the short bones of the hand are rare. I had visions of osteosarcoma, etc. Now I can sleep again! Still means surgery, but thanks for your reassurance.
