A quick question for those who may have done some research. I'm just starting the RN program, but out of curiosity how much does the CRNA program cost. I started looking at schools in my area (MN) but none of the websites have costs. People say its expensive, how expensive?

Dear Nycole,

I have applied to one of the anesthesia programs in Missouri, as that is where I am from, and the complete duration of the program is going to cost about $43, 000. According to the programs finanical aid rep, no matter what you come into the program making, each individual will qualify for aid based on the choice of career your pursuing. I hope this helps.

CAMC - WV is $26,000 for 27 month program. I saw ranges from about $18,000 to $42,000 when I was applying. I took a look at a couple of schools in Minn. and here's what I found. I am not a geography buff, so I probably didn't see all of them.

Mayo- $19,000-$20,000

Minn. VA website sucks!

St. Mary's about $26,000

If you are willing to move away, you can go somewhere for about $20,000 in school expenses.

My program at Univ of Detroit/Mercy runs 27,000 for the 27 months. We just recieved an offer to pay 25,000 of it if we agree to stay 3 years. (balance is pro-rated if one leaves early). BTW Mayo was only 7,000 total a couple of years ago.

My program cost about $32,000 then if you add in the basic RN salary($50,000) for two years of not working the cost is $132,000 for 24 month program.

Hey dont forget the board review about $500, upkeep on ACLS/PALS $200, Misc books $500- $2000, SEE exam $110, actual boards about $600. I have not even talked about things like a nerve stimulator, percordial earpiece, etc...so far that puts the amount at about $135,000.

There is another hidden cost, based on the lenght of time of your school. Compare 24 month programs to 30 month programs. If you are in a 30 month program, if you figure books, tuition, and lost earnings as a CRNA, those extra six months will cost you anywhere from $60,000 to $75,000.

I don't know about other schools. But when I was looking At The University of Tennesse- Chattanooga. There's a MAJOR hidden fee that's not....what am I trying to say? It's in the fine print. It's a clinical fee that must be paid to Erlanger Health System. If I remember correctly it's about 10K and MUST be paid by the end of the first semester. I'll look into it some more and let oyu guys know.

Any thoughts or comments? Are there any other programs that do this? This is the first i've seen of having to pay a clinical agency fee.

I believe that Nazareth hospital school of anesthesia, in conjunction with St. Josephs university in Philadelphia have the same set up. However, their program is cheaper than the program I will be attending at Villanova by approx. $5000. Whereas their program is somewhere in the region of $20000, Villanova costs about $25000.
