Hey guys,

Are any of my fellow Valencia College students aware of the new Nursing BSN program that Valencia is supposed to be starting in fall 2018? They've announced it's coming, but haven't posted a curriculum, additional prerequisites or any other details about it yet.

I'm hoping we can share whatever information is publicly or otherwise available.

I myself have one more semester of pre-requisites at Valencia to go before I can apply. It's looking like it will be Spring 2019 for me, though I'll be done at the end of this summer; it's past the application deadline for fall though, which is a bummer.

Regardless, I'm hoping someone out there has more information to contribute! I'm anxious to find out the curriculum and also wanting to know if there are additional prerequisites that I should be taking.. It's already enrollment time for the summer and I don't want to miss a class I didn't know about.

I haven't seen any details either pertaining to the BSN. But what I did see is that the courses are listed in catalog - so you can see the courses and descriptions for the BSN level classes. I am hoping for details as well. In May, I will be done with my pre-req's for nursing. I can apply to the RN traditional track but I am getting the impression from my advisor that I may not get in until Spring 2019. Once done with my RN, I was hoping that they will have an RN-BSN track. So I wonder if the BSN is it's own program or can we do RN-BSN?

I have no idea of the prerequisites for Valencia's BSN, but it seems that a Statistics class is typical for most BSN programs that I've seen. Some require Chemistry, some don't. I took Intro to Gen Chem back when I thought it was required for a different school (this was before I knew Valencia was going to have a BSN program). It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

If I hear of anything, I'll post. Even talking with my advisor, she didn't give me any information about the BSN as she wasn't sure herself about specifics.

Ahh, thank you for that! I hadn't even thought to look in the catalogue. I too am wondering if it is going to be a traditional BSN track, or if it will fit the same mold as the Valencia-UCF concurrent program with extra courses taken alongside the traditional track ASN, then a couple semesters of online classes for the BSN. It appears that may be the case. This is the program description in the 2017-2018 course catalogue.

I would guess that this is perhaps a program you apply for as you're finishing your ASN degree. I hope they have an option to apply for an ASN-BSN track without having to reapply. Hoping someone else who may have that information jumps into the thread.

One last update that I just found; all of those courses listed above have "admission to BSN program" as a pre-requisite, except for NUR 3169 Evidence and Research in Nursing Practice, which has that requirement in addition to STA 2023 (Statistics). So it looks like Statistics will be a requirement for the BSN; whether or not its a requirement for admission, or if you can take it while in the BSN program is up for debate.

Great information - thank you! I was looking for something else in the nursing course descriptions when I noticed the BSN courses. I hadn't followed up to read anything else yet. They must be really close to putting out the full details since Fall registration will come quickly after Summer begins. Thankfully, in my previous degree, I had to have statistics so I won't need to worry about it. But good to know for those wanting to take a class to fill time before starting the ASN program with intent to complete a BSN.

I've finally seen the new BSN information and course breakdown. I figured I'd repost here for anyone who is still looking for it. As we've all speculated, it is an online program and requires you have your ADN before starting (i.e. it's an RN-BSN as opposed to a full-length BSN program.)

Now I think the big question for me is if it is worth doing the UCF Concurrent program or if this one makes more sense. I haven't figured out what the semester-by-semester breakdown would be, but I'd certainly be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts on that. If it ends up taking the same amount of time to complete, then the only difference would be the school name on the diploma.
