Hello Everyone,

I currently reside in Ontario and I have been working with a home care agency in different long term care facilities. I have been approach with an opportunity to open my own nursing agency, something that I am very interested in. Not having any business background myself, I have been doing some research online on how to begin the process. I just wanted to know if there is anyone out here who has done this or who has any information that would be helpful to me, I would really appreciate it.

Do you have the capital to fund the business? Have you outlined a rough draft of your business plan? Who is your competition, where are they located, and what markets do your competitors serve?

How will you advertise? What is your niche market?

These are key questions (off the top) that you'll need to consider in advance.

Thank you Joanna73 for your reply. I have a capital to start the business and I am currently working on a business plan. There are plenty of other agencies in the area and they do provide an array of services. I know that the competition will be though because of the number of agencies around. I was thinking about providing elderly care but these are all things that I am still thinking about. Thank you very much for the suggestions.

Wow! Sounds great. I'm not completely sure how it runs but to stand out amidst competitors I guess you could offer some form of incentive to employers. A clear study of competitors processes would help you stay ahead. You could also set a quality brand by focusing on particular areas of nursing for a start. I did business development sometime but passionate about care.

You're welcome Woodpony. I have an international Graduate and Postgraduate degree and about completing a PSW diploma. Will start an PN program in January and a second entry BSCN, MN and PHD afterwards. I wanted to start allover to increase my chances of teaching any of these levels sometime.
