I'm a good student (A/B) who is supposed to graduate in 2 weeks but have trouble with time management in my clinicals. My instructor just told me I have one more chance to show that I can better organize my care and do it timely or I will fail clinicals.

I'm good at skills but when I get behind I just get anxious and don't keep up!

I can't believe this would fail me since I feel this type of skill will come during job training (and our class is overcrowed and we don't get personal attention).

Now I'm getting really nervous about this week! I know what I need to do but feel this added pressure might just make me bomb.

Help! I seem to be falling apart at the seams!

How many pts are you caring for? Do you make yourself a chart at the beginning of the day, outlining times that you plan on performing dsg changes, when meds are due, any AM care you might give, etc? I too had some problems and found it helpful.

Also, if you are behind, you have to ask your classmates to help you out! I found out the hard way, don't be embarrassed! If your classmate is standing around talking to others, pull her in your pts room to get help getting your care done (same as you would with a CNA)!

You can do it!! Yes, like the other poster said, what kind of unit are you working on, how many patients do you have etc. Are you using a sheet to help you prioritize your time? Let us know how we can help you...

Let me tell you, I have 8 weeks left and I'm in the same boat. The sad thing is that I've heard time and time again, that it could take a long time even after graduation, that you learn how to prioritize and organize your time. Sounds like you have an instructor like me. Just unrealistic, really, 2 weeks and now she's threatening you. PLEASE! I wish I had some better words of encouragement for you, but hang in there, I've just today come to the realization that if I go in not looking too happy, maybe then I'll look more confident and put together with an angry look on my face ha ha. I hope all goes well for you:)

I want to thank all of you for your great suggestions. I'm going into the Lion's Den tomorrow and I have prepared a check list, looked up the physiology, nearly memorized the meds, practiced visualization, taped my planned day on a tape recorder with affirmations and . . . you won't believe this last one . . . I went to a hypnotherapist!!! If I don't get through the next two days . . .it won't be for lack of dedication and effort. I refuse to go quietly into the night.

I'm going kicking and screaming that I can do it!!!

I'll let you all know how wonderfully I performed! Positive thoughts!!!

OH, I only have two patients but it's a step down cardiac care unit and these guys are inches away from ICU . . .lots of care . . . lots of meds.

I made it ! I didn't make one mistake today! I was timely, focused and performed well even with the instructor looking on...Thank God! Now onto the 4th test and the final . . . both in one week... But I'll be on the stage getting that honors diploma on May 12th....Whew!
