1 year acute experience enough?

U.S.A. New York

Published

My partner will be moving to NYC next year as a lawyer, so we were toying with the idea of me moving to a more job friendly state in the mean time and getting a year of experience on a cardiopulmonary floor (deals with CHF, pneumonia, valve replacements, MI's etc.., med/surg overflow, and stroke stuff).

The main concern is would a year of acute experience in a hospital in Idaho be enough to even be considered for jobs in the NYC area? The hospital organization runs several hospitals, two of which are magnet status, but not the one I will be working at. I realize I might not land a job in NYC itself, but so long as I don't have to work Home Health and am in commuting distance, it's a win. I would have a bachelors degree by that time as well from Penn State.

What do you think? Is 1 year of acute experience enough to land a hospital job in the NYC area?
