Working at SNF/LTC

I wanted to ask how or what really to expect working at snf or ltc. Is it a good idea to start working there as a first time nurse for a new grad. I know it will be so hard and thats expected. What should i ask while being in orientation to make sure my license is safe. I would like feedback please.

    Are you a RN or LPN? I always thought its a good place to start.

    1. Find out as much as you can about the facility. What is their reputation?

    2. What will be your role? Long term or subacute. Nurse patient ratio, how many techs? Each shift.

    3. Is the facility paper or computerized?

    4. How long is orientation?

    Hospitals are not hiring LVN/LPN anymore at least where I live. Even RNs with associate degrees are required to get their BSN if they want to continue to work in a hospital. Long term care has changed significantly since I became a nurse 15years ago. Long term care used to be where people went to die, not anymore these days hospitals are discharging patients too soon and too sick. You will have to further your education to get hired in hospitals, and working in long-term care facility will give the opportunity to learn and grow.
