Work or study? GERMANY

Will it be more convincing to study in Germany, or work, for overseas nurses. If a nurse choose to work, how should they start their application for visa and education assessment? And how to find the employer?

If you are already a nurse there is a process in place for an evaluation. Since Germany has ongoing nursing shortages, they have some special programs for some countries to attract nurses, you have to google which one is current. Also, I noticed recently that some hospitals even had job postings in more than one language to attract nurses from European countries.

If you are a EU citizen everything is easier because you can work within the EU and do not go through a long work visa process - different story if you are from outside the EU. You also have to pass German language test and go through the "anerkennung" if you are already a nurse.

Nursing is not highly regarded in Germany and they are still in the process of establishing an academic pathway to nursing. Granted, there are some bachelor's degrees now or combined programs but the traditional nursing education is in a nursing schools that is commonly attached to the hospital and three years long. After that, nurses can enter additional 2 years of specialization where they continue some school while working in an area.

You should do more research to find out if this is the country you would want to live in permanently or for some while before entering nursing education in Germany.

I am a nurse and wish to work in Germany but was not sure about its application process.

I am not a EU citizen as well, I am an Asian. DO we need to apply for a job seeker visa first,or search for employment before it: as there are many recruiting agencies which promises to get a job for us, if we choose them to represent us.

If you are from the Philippines it is easier as there is a special agreement. On the bottom of that page you will see more links to different topics related to working in Germany like Visa and such. I am not sure about recruiting agencies but there is a job link as well.

German as a language is not that easy, which can create other problems or delays as you need to pass a language test.
