If you can get on with Mayo, go for it. They pay well and nurse to patient ratio is low compared to other area hospitals. Shands pays the highest and has the highest nurse to patient ratio. A lot of hospitals here have a sign on bonus, except Mayo of course. I know several people that graduated and went into a specialty right away. They are all happy. Those that jumped into med/surg head first, most of them were overwhelmed, but beginning (over a year later) to get the hang of it and love it.

Some agencies will let you work for them after only a few months of experience. I wouldn't suggest that tho. Agency work isn't easy and a lot of times your assignments have the higher acuity (sp) pts...I can't spell all of a sudden...:chuckle

Most agencies want you working for 1 year before signing on. That is of course, if you want to work in other hospitals or LTC facilities....I think home care is different....You'd have to check into it....

Good luck.
