Hi! I'm new here and have a question maybe someone can help with! I am newly married (July 2012) to my high school sweetheart, and we've been together almost 10 years prior to our wedding. We are wanting to have two kids and we are debating when the right time is to have them. We don't want to wait 4 or 5 years for me to finish school as I am a new student this semester going for my BSN. After discussing with my advisor she recommended that we have them sooner rather than later when I start clinicals. My husband and I are trying to weigh our options... does anyone have any advice if we should try now or at the end of school? I was told that the nursing program doesn't like to give time off for maternity leave and that was a huge reasoning of why my advisor recommended I start trying for kids now. I am 26 now and if we don't have kids before I'm 32 I won't have them and my husband is ok with my reasons for that choice. (I have a rare genetic disorder plus PCOS that make having children later in life a bad choice). Any advice is much appreciated!

I too have PCOS and I do not have any children yet. I am waiting until about 9 months before the program ends to try hard to have a baby. I heard it is really hard to manage having a new baby in the program. That is why I am waiting. If you want to have a baby before you start the program, you can wait until the baby is 4 years old and in preschool and then go to nursing school. However in my opinion you would be better off getting school out of the way before you have a baby.
