When a new grad RN program is not accepting external applicants?

Published

Hi Everyone,

A new grad RN program I was looking at had a application posting date for internal candidates and then a later date for external candidates. But they closed the listing and said they won't be accepting external candidates (even before the application is posted).

This basically mean that they had enough internal applicants so there's no need to extend it to external applicants, right? I was curious so I asked but they said there is no set number, it just closed.... and they didn't disclose anymore information.

So in this situation, would you just take any position to get into that organization's system, like foot in the door of the hospital, just so you can apply as internal candidate when the next deadline rolls around?

Also, a classmate decided to apply to new grad application but the day we get our RN license is literally a few days AFTER the new grad program starts at the hospital. But she applied for it anyways, I'm not sure what this would mean... but in your opinion, would it be possible to ask the hospital for a few days wait until you get your license?

This seems highly improbable but I wanted to ask just in case.

Thank you everyone! :)

When you say "new grad RN program" does that mean something equivalent to continued training/orientation for people who have recently graduated from nursing school in place of just applying to a specific job opening within the hospital? I have more to say but wanted to make sure that was what you were referring to first.

Hello!

Sorry for the confusion! Yes, I meant training for people who have recently graduated from nursing school.

I was just curious that for external and internal applicants, the external applicants was closed but when I asked, they said they just closed and it wasn't because they reached a certain number or anything. So I was just curious about that.

Thank you again!
