When can I start applying?

Nursing Students SRNA

Hi all,

Im wondering when would be the best time to start applying to CRNA schools.

I have a BS in biology with a not so great GPA, less than 3.0. I obtained my ADN with a 3.45 GPA in 5/2010, worked in telemetry from 7/2010 until 11/2011. Got into a MICU 11/2011 and have been there since. I plan on taking the CCRN this year or early next yr and possibly the GRE. I also started a BSN which I plan to complete by next year. Should I start applying this year or wait until everything is completed and apply next year? Thoughts?

I also have BLS and ACLS

Well you need a BSN to apply, so you have to wait until you obtain that.

not every school requires a BSN though right?

So sorry, I totally didn't see the BS in biology. You are essentially competing against an applicant pool, so if they have stellar G.P.A's, multiple certifications, and more experience then you can see where you fit in. Your best bet would be to call the schools you are interested in and ask whether you should wait or go ahead and apply. They will also be able to give you better advice on what you can do to make yourself a better applicant.

CCRN is always a plus. I'm almost certain that most other applicants will probably have it. GRE may or may not be required. If it is, the schools will let you know what an acceptable score is. Bottom line is, you can still get in with your stats. You just have to contact the school and ask them what the average stats of the previous classes are. This will give you a good idea of where you fit in.

Recently,i have been looking into CRNA school. Few requirements varies from school to school but the many things remains the same through out the CRNA schools like:

BS ( it can be in any field)

ICU experience atleast 2 years

GPA of 3.0 above

GRE ( scores varies)

Exceptional in few school would be

Some does not require Bachelors degree ( example,USC in California)

Shadowing Nurse Anesthetist atleast for a year

ICU experience ( some will take NICU but not PICU)

Hope this helps!!
