What comes after the certification

One of the reasons I became a nurse, was so that one day I could become a SANE nurse. I have finally found a program that starts in January and am planning on registering. I am currently an ER nurse, and the hospital where I work does not do SANE exams. We transfer the patients out to other facilities. This breaks my heart because it is hard enough to tell someone what happened to you, et alone walk into an ER asking for help. It took me a year to tell anyone when it happened to me 13 years ago. We aren't even allowed to tell them that we don't do exams and that they should seek care at one of the SANE facilities. In any case....after I get my certification, I know my ER will not let me do it there. I don't want to get another degree that doesn't lead to anything. I got my MSN-AC and don't even get a salary increase. How do you find an organization/business that hires SANE nurses after you get the certification? Any comments are more than welcome.

WOW. Such a good question! I work at the University of Iowa and I know two nurses who specialize in domestice and rape violence. One is a NP who works in women's health and the other is a physician's wife who is also a coroner. We need more people like you. Don't give up. Get your facts together and present them. If you have a hard time getting the "powers that be" to listen, then consider doing public talks about the subject for free to generate interest. That might help you get started or at least sway public opinion.
