What is the best path to take?

Hi, I am 17 years old and doing my pre-reqs for nursing school. It is my dream to eventually move to the UK. I have found some information about travel nursing to the UK but all the information I can find seems very vague. I am just looking to try and clear some things up.

Do I need a BSN to get a license in the UK?

Is getting a travel assignment first then trying to sign on with the hospital for a permenant position the best route to take?

Is this a realistic goal to get a permenant job in the UK or is it just a dream?

Any other information any of you could give would be awesome. Thank you everyone so much for you time.

Hi Josh,

I'm not sure where you are from but I'm guessing the US? As far as I am aware you would need the three year course and not one of the two year / accelerated ones as the number of clincal and theory hours wouldn't be enough.

You would need to be considering a permenant position really as you would be expected to complete a preceptorship period, so travel nursing wouldn't be an option, I'm not sure it really exists in the UK. I knew of nurses who would work for an agency that could get short term placements in various hospitals but not the travel nurse programme that exists in the US.

At the moment this is all academic as there is no overseas recruitment in the UK as nursing is not a shortage occupation - but you have several years to complete nurse training and I have seen nurses go from "a feast to a famine" so things may change. Hope this helps?
