Wanting more experience

Can someone please advise...I have been a RN for almost 2.5 years and obtained my BSN last December. I started off on a Med-Surg/Tele unit, floating to Urgent Care at a Psych Hospital, then landed a job full time in a different Urgent Care keeping the M-S/Tele per diem...which I need to leave that facility ASAP! I really love my FT position at the UCC, but am looking for a per diem. I'd like to find one on a unit as I love bedside and want to keep those skills.

Here are my dilemas:

1) I have a difficult time leaving where I am comfortable which may be partially because I am not as confident as I should be about more emergent/critical care. (Being in an UCC, we rarely complete codes as 911 is called for pts to be sent out and most patients are observation for me) I know I need to take some courses but the time and money is another factor AND I don't know which schools or courses would actually certify me or just give me the knowledge.

2) Looking for positions on units that I have interest require 3 years total, or 1 year prior on ICU or critical care (which I am not certified for) so how am I to find a position that will take what I have??

AND some people advise me to get the job first and have the employer certify me (hhhmmmmm, don't I need that to get the positions??? so confused)

I am dying for more education, but as a visual and tactile learner, I know I need to be "in the mix"

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!
