UW-Oshkosh FNP Program

I was also interested in the FNP program at Oshkosh. But to my dismay the program is no longer taking applicants after Fall 09 because they are changing from a MSN to a Doctorate program. I believe all of the UW programs in the state are following suit. It is apparently a national push. At least that is what I was told by UW Oshkosh. Maybe try one of the private colleges, more $$$, but at least you would not have to wait while they retool the programs.

Yes I am disappointed too about them not having the BSN to FNP. So I am applying at UW-Milwaukee for fall 2010 to get the FNP because they have weekend and online programs. They promised they would still have the program in 2010. But by 2015 they all have to be DNP programs. So I plan to get the MSN in FNP while tuition is lower and then go back for the 22 or some credits to get the DNP onine from UW-milwaukee.

Oh Marian still has the Nurse Practitioner but it is Adult NP and it is actually cheaper pre credit than UM-Milwaukee and WAYYYYY cheaper than Marquette. Concordia University of Wisconsin-Mequon has the program too but you have to have been a nurse for 2 years prior.

Erica! Thanks for this info. I want to enter Milwaukee's FNP program as well. I am enrolled in Statistics as a pre-req this fall. I am waiting for someone from UW-M to contact me regarding some admission questions I have. I sincerely hope that they do not change the program to a DNP sooner than 2015.

I graduated with an education degree from UWM and now I am going to go back for the FNP. But the one issue that I did have with UWM was their advisors. I have contacted them almost 15 times now and the only time that I get to talk to them is if they answer the phone. I do not get phone calls returned or emails returned. Very frustrating but we shall see. I was told that they would have the program in 2010 so we shall see. If they do get rid of it I will then go to Marion but the only have the Adult Nurse Practitioner. So I am really hoping that UWM keeps the FNP until there is a BSN to DNP program available.

Okay, I talked on the phone on Tuesday with a Doctor of nursing-- Karen Morin-- from UW-M, and she advised me contrary to their website's information. She told me that they would not even look at me until my Stat's class was done. I wanted to take the Nursing Theory course in the fall while taking my Stat's class. Apparently Sylvia Forbes is on vacation until later this month. I left her a message.

Have you written an autobiographical sketch yet? I asked Karen how to format this, and she told me to break it up into sub-headings.

I did look at Marion's program, but I also want my FNP, not ANP.

Karen did mention the DNP program being developed at UW-M, but I am not certain if they are phasing the MSN program out. I live near Madison, and they will not admit any more MSN students since last Spring. Do you know if we will be required to return for our DNP after 2015? I am hoping to get grandfathered in.

Hey, check out Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. I am submitting my application for UW-Milwaukee still, but I really like the curriculum at Clarke. They are very helpful and easy to get answers from. One of my co-workers is in their FNP program and highly recommends them!

All of my application materials were submitted to UWM two weeks ago! I am waiting for a reply :) I hope to start the FNP program this spring semester.
