USA accelerated nursing program weekly schedule

Published

I've applied for Fall 2017 for University of South Alabama's accelerated nursing program. I'm currently waiting to hear back. I live about 1.5 hours away from the Fairhope campus, so I was wondering what the weekly schedule is generally like. What time does class typically start, and how long are the days? How many days a week will I go to campus, and is it MWF, MTW, etc? With clinicals, does the amount of time at campus decrease or do you squeeze clinical time into the normal class schedule? Any info is appreciated! I'm trying to figure out if the commute is feasible or if I need to make some alternate plans.

So I graduate in July from this program. One guy in our class drives from MS daily. the first 5 weeks you basically have class every day from like 9 - 3 or something... Then skills is like 3 days a week (and they make the schedule to fit around the class before you and the available teachers). Psych is next and I think we had class like 1 or 2 times a week then clinical days were W - F (One day was spent in Mobile, and the other two were at your clinical site which could be in Mobile or Bay Minette or Daphne... it just depends). Adult 1 was after that and we had class one day a week (sometimes two) and then you would have SIM on Wednesday mornings. Patient pick up is after that unless you're in a weekend group then it would be Friday afternoon. Clinical are Thursday and Friday or Saturday and Sunday. Depending on which hospital you're at you could be in Fairhope or Mobile. Same goes for Adult 2. We had class 1x/week and then SIM and clinicals. Ped clinicals were in Mobile, but they switch back and forth with hospitals so you could also end up at Sacred Heart in Pensacola.

Honestly.. going through this program.. which might I had your life is literally going to suck miserably for the full year. Make sure to make some good friends to lift you end when your needing it...

I would try and live in the area though. The amount of nights I stayed up studying to Midnight only to wake back up again at 5 to keep studying would have killed me if I didn't live in the area. Not to mention with clinicals... Paperwork in the beginning will keep you up for quite a while as well. I live in Daphne and I feel like that has been a comfortable area as far as traveling between the Fairhope campus and Clinical sites. The furthest I have had to drive to was Providence Hospital which took me about 30-40 minutes in the morning. Hope this helps!

Good Luck to ya if you get in. It's definitely one hell of a ride that I am SO SO SO happy I am almost through with.

Thanks for all the info! I really appreciate it. You've given me a lot to think about, especially since it's not possible for me to move to the Fairhope/Daphne area due to my husband's job. Killing 1.5 hours driving to class instead of studying when I have an exam is one of my main concerns. I've (belatedly) decided to consider doing the normal BSN program in Mobile since it'd be 30 minutes closer.

Don't let the driving completely hold you back. We have a girl who also drives from pensacola and Gulf Shores. They all make it work. But I would say on nights when you have to be back early it would be beneficial to stay with someone if you become close with some people. We have 2 students who get hotel rooms to be closer for clinicals. I drove 1.5 hours with my first degree daily except on test days. I would stay in Hattiesburg on those nights before. The year sucks and its very fast paced... but I wouldn't go about it any other way.
