UCLA MECN Program

Hi everyone! Does anyone have any information about UCLA's Masters Entry Clinical Nurse program? Has anyone applied or graduated from there? I'm surprised to see there aren't more posts about it! I definitely want to apply and would love to hear info from anyone. Thanks!

UCLA MECN would grant you a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and Registered Nurse (RN) license upon completion of the program (Assuming that you successfully complete the program and pass the NCLEX). If you are looking for an accelerated program that would prepare you to become a NP, this is not the one for you. However, if you want to become a Registered Nurse and do not want to pursue another B.S. on top of your previous Bachelor's, Master's, and/or Doctorate degree, then MECN might be the one for you.

Thanks for your response. But isn't it true that if you get an MSN, you can apply to any Nurse Practitioner program?

I believe in most other MSN programs, you get a specialty such as, Pediatric NP, Adult NP, Family NP, Geriatric NP, etc. on top of you MSN degree. However, the MECN program does not offer you a specialty, so you would be a generalist nurse (staff RN) with a Master's degree once you graduate.

If you choose to go through MECN, then you would have to gain some experience as a staff RN after graduation and then apply to Post Master's program, which will get you a NP specialty in about 2 years.

Got it, thanks. Have you attended or applied to the program?
