Truman College

Are there any current Truman College nursing students here? According to the website (http://www.trumancollege.cc/schedules/programs.php?ProgramID=239&DeptNo=33&ProgramTitle=Nursing)

the only prerequisites are a biology course, a chemistry course, a math course, and a satisfactory score on a placement exam. Is this true? Is there a lottery for seats?

If you are going to apply, make sure your application is 100% complete, or it will get tossed. Yes, they use a lottery system. That means, if you have a 4.0 GPA, you have the same chance of getting accepted as someone with a 2.5. My advice is for you to apply to as many nursing programs as possible and continue to take prerequisites for other schools until you've heard from Truman. That way, if you didn't get in, you didn't waste any time waiting.

Truman does have a lottery, however, from what instructors there have said, they have a first pass "weed-out" based on an overall picture of the candidate's GPA, education, background, etc. Then, these are put in a lottery. Having good grades going in WILL help you get into the lottery, but then it's all chance. They get too many applicants to do anything else.

The other post was correct in saying your application will need to be 100% complete. They will toss it if not complete. So double, triple, quadruple-check that EVERYTHING is done. Dot every "i", cross every "t".

The qualifications are Algebra (which you can pass out of by taking a test), beginning BIOL, and CHEM. Also English classes.

Truman has a great program with some awesome teachers (Mrs. Zimmermann, Mrs. Corbett, Mrs. Kipnis, Mr. Worms are among the tough but FANTASTIC teachers. Absolutely the best). Truman also has a great reputation. At the hospital I work, and at many others I had clinicals, they love Truman grads because they know their stuff. I know several nursing recruiters in the area and they also like Truman grads as well.

And you can't beat the price of tuition compared with other schools in Chicago-land!

Good Luck!
