Tips of Floor Nursing

Published

Whether you work in LTC, Acute care, or Sub-acute care list your tips, tricks, and must know(s) of being on the floor!

Specializes in Oncology, Ortho/trauma,.

Not sure what kind of tips you are looking for but here are a couple I have picked up over the years

1. cut the fingers off of the glove to use around fore arm IV's and tape down for people to shower. Or use the glove over hand Iv's.

2. always pull the drain/foley cath into an open gloved palm then fold the glove over the tip and viola contained dripping

3. When taking off a isolation gown ball up in as small a wad as possible then while holding the gown in one hand remove the glove and fold down over the gown and then transfer the wad to the other hand and remove the other glove in the same fashion, this contains the gown in a smaller wad and doesn't take up so much room in the trash bin

4. cut the bottom of a styrofoam cup to act like a funnel to fill your ice packs with

5. poor mans heating pad; wet wash rag nuked at 2 minutes place in a ziplock bag then in a pillow case or two.

6. Brown cow to start someones bowels ; equal parts prune juice, coffee, and 30 mls milk of mag

7. always take a second person with you when putting in a folley

That's exactly what I was thinking, just tips you have learned from working!
