Thinking of relocating, Questions?

Published

Hello,

We are thinking of relocating to the Rochester area. My wife will be talking with a person from the Mayo Clinic end of this week or next week and will be discussing a date for an interview and to be able to see the area. We were trying to find out any info from someone first hand.

We know that the winters can be bad however that does not bother us. Wife is a critical care RN with 3 years exp. She is ACLS,PALS,and CCRN. The Mayo looks fantastic on paper however that is not always the case. Would just like some insights on nurse to PT. ratio's, How the charting is done, and how they are to work for.

Also any insights on the school systems. We looked online and they look fantastic again that is on paper. Children will be in 2nd and 4th grade.

Any and all info that you could give us would greatly be appreciated.

thanks

Hello. I am not very familiar with Rochester (my husband does do some work down there), but it is a growing community and it is very affordable.

The Mayo clinic is (obviously) fantastic. I don't know much about the ratios, but I have never heard anything but positive feedback regarding the Mayo clinic.

Winters can be harsh, but the summers are beautiful. I love it here. I've been all over the country and MN has it all. The people are nice, friendly, the schools are top grade, the health care is excellent, the air is clean and there are miles and miles of hiking trails, parks, and lakes. The grass is soft (I hate Florida grass), the houses are built well (to withstand all kinds of weather conditions), and it's just a nice place to call home.

Sorry I can't help much about Rochester, but good luck and I hope you and your family find you love it as much as I do!!!

I am a Staff RN at St Marys Hosp - Mayo. I work on a Medical unit. We usually care for 3-4 patients per day, 4-6 over night. Mayo treats it's employees very well. Benefits are fantastic. My only complaint is parking; been at Mayo for three years and have no daytime parking priviledges. I pay $5 to park about 2 blocks away or try to park in the residental neighborhood without getting a ticket.

I live outside of Rochester, so I don't know that much about the schools, other than that they are crowded.

Good luck with the interview
