thinking of going indepedent

I started working in longterm care in 1973 as a nursing assistant...finally went to school and became an LPN and I have worked everywhere it seems. For the last 8 months I've worked for an agency and I really love it. But why should they (the agency) get paid for getting me assignments? So, I'm considering going independent...now the hard part. I'm getting advise from everyone...but none of these advise givers actually works independently. Is there anyone out there who has tried this and if so what kind of advise can you give me? Feel free to email me of post. Looking forward to hearing from you.
