teco

thinking of going to teco in kissimmee for a lpn , i wanted to know after the program can you do an online program to become an rn ?? Also what kind of jobs are out there for new lpn? Any orlando, kissimmee hospitals hiring lpn?

Thanks for all your help, i am very new at all this,

thanks

I'm currently in the LPN program at TECO. It transitions into the rn program at Valencia which is online except for one clinical day a week. But you have to do all the rpe-req's before you can apply. Theres also Seminole State College but if you don't do their LPN program you have to work 1000 hours before you can apply and you have to do allt heir pre-req's too. There's Exselsior, which is all online but really hard to pass the practicum and its super expensive. And you have to travel out of town for the practicum and the closest one is in Georgia and you have to pay all expenses. There's also Galen in Tampa and you can do your pre-req's while in the program. As for jobs the highest paying jobs for LPN's are in the retirement homes. But Osceola Regional Medical Center and Winnie Palmer Hospital are hiring LPNs. Hope that helps!!

Thanks so much, ok so the best thing to do is go to school at teco for lnp, then take my pre-reqs at valenica, both schools are 8 min from my house, how long does it take to get the pre-reqs to get done, or maybe i should ask the when i start the first day of pre-reqs and then go for rn how long are we talking including taking the pre-reqs and school for rn at valenica after i am done for lpn program, thats great those 2 hospitals are hiring lpn any idea what they start pay is? thanks so much for all your help :)))

If you do well on the CPT and don't have to take any remedial classes, then it should only take two semester to do your pre-reqs if you take 4 classes a emester and don't mind taking a bunch of science classes together. And the LPN to RN Bridge program is 3 semesters once you get in. So after TECO it'll take you about two years minimum to get your RN. But the good thing about it is that you can work as a nurse and get experience as you're taking your pre-req's for your RN. To do the two year RN program at Valencia you'd still have a year or two worth of pre-req's and then an automatic one year wait list to get in, so it would take you five years that way. With TECO its faster ad the Bridge program enrolls through all three semester so there isn't a waitlist. But it is super competitive so make sure you do well on your pre-reqs because you need a good GPA. I would recommend printing out the Info packet for the program off the Valencia webite and make ratemyprofesor.com your best friend when picking professors for your pre-req's. And I don't know the starting pay for the hospitals but I know they pay less than the nuring homes and the nursing homes start at about $17 an hour for a new nurse, so I would guess about $14 to $15 an hour. Good Luck!!

Hi thanks again for all your help!!! one more question, after i get my licence from teco can i go straight to valencia for my rn and not get a job as an lpn just go straight to valencia or will valenica not take me because i never got a job as a lpn, i want to get my lpn licence then go straight to valencia can i do that?? thanks so much for all your help ;00

As of right now you can go straight to valencia without working as an lpn. But schools are starting to change the requirements to a minimum of 1000 work hours and I'm sure Valencia is soon to follow. But as of right now no work experience is needed. :)

Adding to Stacy..I graduated from TECO in July.. St. Cloud Hosp also hires LPN.. Hospital pay for LPN is usually $14-$14 an hour. There is more money and much more job options if you want to work NH. For those of us that do not want to work LTC, it has been a bit harder to find word. Most Dr. offices hire MAs now. Fortunately there are a lot of jobs for new grads right now doing flu shots. But of course that is temporary and seasonal.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Stacey,

Question for ya, i am going to teco in spring of next year, part time at night. I work on the weekends during the day. Can i take my labs at night time instead of weekends?? I work mon, thrus, fri, sat, sun day and can not change to night time at my job, so i would like to know if i could do my labs at night time,

thanks,

susie

I was in the full time day program.. but based on what I know.. the night program does all their clinicals on weekends. Classes are on week nights and then clinicals on Sat. Sun.
