Switching to L&D

I currently work on a cardiac/med-surg unit and I want to make the switch to L&D. In nursing school I always wanted to do L&D but there were no positions open at my hospital when I applied. I'm nervous about the switch, does anybody have any positive stories about switching specialities?! I've been an RN for 2 years now, I think it's a good time for me to move on to what I really want to do!
