STNA question

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm becoming an STNA as a prereq for nursing school and though I don't plan on working as an NA I heard that some hospitals will train you for another position if you are an STNA.

Does anyone know what opportunities open up by being an STNA?

Thanks!

Yes I had friends that were able to get hospital jobs right after passing the NCLEX because they had worked for the hospital as CNAs or SNAs

It's a good way to get your foot in the door in a hospital or ECF that you want to work. You get to meet tons of nurses and MDs and it's a good way to make connections and build bridges with them. And if nothing else convinces you, it's a great way to get experience while in nursing school. Working as an STNA will most likely be looked at very positively when you apply for jobs as an RN/LPN.

I'm a PCA at a hospital, and on my floor our duties are the same as an STNA, but the PCAs in the ED are trained by the hospital to draw blood and do EKGs. So yeah, overall... great experience!
