Starting out at CRC

I currently have a BSN (three years experience) with a BA in business management (15+ years experience) and am now researching a job in the clinical trials arena. From what I've seen, CRC is a good place to start. Since I have plenty of business background with three years of bedside (1 med/surge, 2 ED), I'm wondering if a certificate program would bolster my application or if I should just start applying for CRC positions..

I live the SF bay area and feel that this area is rich in research...

    You really do not need a certificate, especially if you are willing to do infusion research nursing (which I'm sure you will most likely feel comfortable with given your background).

    I think you would make a great infusion research RN. You may not have as much to do with protocol submission/development and patient screening as a a RN Coordinator...but you may make more money.

    Sorry, is a CRC a clinical research coordinator (not RN/Research Coord)? If so, I would be prepared for a major pay cut. Honestly...I would be prepared for a major paycut in general, even as a research RN (especially if you will be working through a university).

    That being said, there are TONS of benefits to working as a research nurse - awesome schedule with weekends and holidays off being #1. ;) Plus, tons of opportunities to advance into management (if you're interested) with your business degree.
