Hi!
So I graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with an engineering technology degree about 6 years ago. Since then I've worked in the construction indurstry and have been really unhappy. A few months ago I decided that I wanted to go to nursing school and wanting to apply to the Simmons College Direct Entry program but I am nervous about getting in. I have no medical experience (but I am applying to become a volunteer at MGH and shadowing a few doctors I know) and none of the prereqs (but taking Stats at Simmons this Spring). I graduated with a 3.2 and have a strong work resume. I also think my statement and recommendations are pretty good. Also Wentworth (my undergrad) and Simmons are affilliated with each other as Colleges of the Fenway. I know the program doesnt expect you to have a nursing or medical background but I am afraid my lack of will be looked at negatively or that my undergrad GPA isnt high enough.
Does anyone have any insight on admissions to this program? This is really the only place I would like to go. I am super nervous and driving myself (and my husband) crazy thinking about it!
Thanks!

Hi,
i'm a recent graduate of a DE program (Boston College) who also considered Simmons. I liked the program, but I was interested in finishing faster than Simmons would allow. Also, they gave me a hard time about pre-reqs (CLEP exams vs. actually taking the courses). I can tell you love Simmons, but I think it's a good idea to apply to other programs, too. You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. There are several good programs in Boston to choose from. I didn't have a stellar GPA but I had some great work experience and did very well on the pre-reqs I had taken before applying, and I was accepted to the 3 programs I applied to. Write a kick ass essay from your heart about why you want to be an advance practice nurse. Best of luck to you!!
