I took a job in June and had options of doing sign on bonus, relocation assistance, etc. and decided to take $3000 which was supposed to be for relocation assistnace but I had to actually submit all reciepts and then they reimbursed me. Now, I have decided to leave the job and the boss has told me I will have to pay back the money for my bonus??? I never signed anything and don't think that I would have to pay it back but wanted people's opinions. Seems like if it was a sign on bonus I would have got the straight $3000 not submit receipts and get the money. Plus, I only used about $2500. I am so pissed. She is doing everything in her power to get to me and I will not let her.

I'm not sure how your hospital works, but generally, if you leave before a year, you have to pay back any relocation or sign on bonuses. You may want to talk to your HR dept for clarification. Good luck.
I don't know. All I do know is I never signed anything. For me to have to pay anything back, they need to have me sign something and I never did. The sign on bonus requires a commitment, they never said that about the relocation assistance.

Ask them to show you the paperwork and/or copy of the policies that state you must give the money back. It is possible that the rules are "buried" in your employee handbook (or in the general hospital policy manual ... or whatever) and that you are obligated to operate under all the rules of the organization because you agreed to be an employee.
In other words, it's possible that there was not a separate piece of paper for you to sign ... but that your agreement to follow ALL the organizational policies is covered by your acceptance of the job.
Ask them to show you the policies/whatever that cover the disbursement of that money ... and whatever paperwork/policies/whatever obligates you to follow that policy. It might exist.
It's o.k. though. I stayed as long as I could. There should be something about staying a certain length of time. I have been there about 8 months.
