Hello everyone. Some background information on me. I work at a local hospital with the Nursing department as a Unit Clerk. I work part time every weekend where it is usually downtime. I go to school during the week, finishing the prereqs for my school's RN program. The nurses here who I've been working with for many years know of my plans to become an RN, and they told me if I wanted to I can shadow them while on the job. This is an excellent opportunity to get ahead of the competition. However, I do not know what questions I should be asking, or what to look for and take note of. The nurses are busier than I am, so I don't want to waste their time by asking pointless questions. Would it be weird if I just followed them around while they do their jobs, and if I have questions to ask?

The only time I truly shadowed nurses was when a hospital wanted to hire me for two different departments and they wanted me to follow a nurse from each floor. Doing this they figured I would stay longer on the floor I liked the most. I start in a week :). I'm excited to land a job on progressive care (telemetry unit).
Good luck to you!
I wish you the best of luck as well. However, your answer did not really help me much. I work with a few nurses on a telemetry unit as well, they usually have a mid range census count with a patient nurse ratio of 6:1, 4-5 nurses each shift.
