Sentara RN Program?

Published

Hello. I have a BS in Environmental Health from ODU, and I'm thinking about applying to the RN Program at Sentara Norfolk General. I have mostly B's in the pre-reqs from ODU over 10 years ago. I talked with an advisor at Sentara and she said that there was no age limit in the pre-requisites.

I'll be seeing her next Friday, but I wanted to know about the new Critical Thinking requirement that they're requiring now for entrance into the program. I have a Phil 101 course from VA Wesleyan College. Would that count?

Also, would I be competitive with mostly B's from my pre-reqs that I earned at ODU? Also, I had previously flunked out from ODU School of Nursing in 1994. Would I still have a chance? I know it's "competitive", but at the same time, I want to really get in as soon as possible. I have a husband and a young daughter to help support.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I didn't get into the 2nd Degree Program at NSU. They're not giving me a direct answer, but they make it seem like it's because I had previously flunked. One of the reasons I'm considering Sentara.

Its hard to say because the program requirements are changing every time you turn around. As far as being competive it depends on your exact GPA and your NET score. Everyone that I know of whos in the program now had a 4.0 and very high NET scores. It just depends on how many people apply. I just had a friend apply for the Aug class and she got denied with a 3.75, they told her she could reapply if she brought her GPA up. So ya, it's tough. I hope that you get in though, theres nothing like trying. Its a great school, I love it.

There are a few other people on these boards that go to Sentara, they may also be able to give you some information or know of someone who got in with less that a 4.0, I'm not saying that everyone in the program has a 4.0, it's just that the people that I have discussed it with did have one. Good luck to you, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.
