SE WI Schools

Hey all,

I just found this forum and think its great. I want to go back to school for my BSN but would like some input on students about schools the attend and if they like/dislike them. I already have a Bachelor's in Business Management/Accounting but its just fulfilling enough. I live near UW-Parkside and thats where I got my first BS from. My other thought was Alverno. I would like to start classes this coming January if possible. Thanks guys!

If you want to get into the actual nursing program you probably had to apply last August. I'm graduating from UWM next week and UWM and parkside share their nursing program. I think you can only start in Fall as well. You might be able to start school in January if you have prerequisites that you have to take.

I graduated from the nursing program at UW Parkside (although as the above post mentions, Parkside's is a "consortial" program of UW Milwaukees, many instructors travel from Milwaukee to teach). I LOVED Parkside. The class size is very limited - 24 students, unless they've expanded. You go through the entire nursing program with pretty much the same group of people so you get to know each other. I can't say good enough things about the staff, they ROCK.

The only downsides are that the small class size makes it quite competitive to get in, you need a stellar GPA in your pre-reqs and you have to write a good essay (be sure you ADDRESS THE QUESTION), and it's a fall entry only. The above poster is also correct in that you would have had to apply for the nursing program some time ago.

Your pre-req class sizes will be larger but the staff is still awesome. Be ready to work VERY HARD in your sciences!

We did clinicals in Kenosha, Racine, and S. Milwaukee. Every one of my clinical instructors did a great job preparing us for the "outside world" - as much as anyone can be ready.

UW-Parkside's credits should transfer - from what I understand, Alverno's don't.

tri-rn,

I apply for the UWM Nursing program this January for Fall Clinicals. Is there any advice you could give me? What was your gpa like? How much volunteer work did you have? Did you work in the medical field prior to applying? Any essay advice? I go to UWM and I'm quite nervous about all the competition.
