I have been working as a 'student nurse companion' in NYC throughout nursing school which is sitting on 1:1. I have recently graduated, passed my NCLEX and have been issued a license. I informed my work and they told me I need to still work as a student nurse companion until my start date as an RN in August. I was wondering if this is a scope of practice issue because I would be technically practicing below my license? My worry is that as I am sitting on a 1:1 something could happen and I could be held accountable as an RN since I have this license. I am just starting out as a new grad, and do not want to get into any issues before I even start my career. If anyone could help me that'd be appreciated! Thank you!

I don't know how it works in NYS, but in NJ you have the option of signing a waiver provided by your employer. You should ask them about it. I know a few techs who signed it since they had to continue working about a month or two until their RN start date.
