School wait..

Nursing Students General Students

I'm starting to get a little discouraged with some of the things i'm hearing about actually entering a nursing program when all the prereqs are done. I already have a bachelors in communications, and should have all my prereqs done after one more semester, but some people are saying that RN schools are so backed up there is a 1-2 year wait to even begin? Is that true? I may as well get my masters in healthcare admin while i'm waiting...i can get that done in a little over a year! Thanks for any info,

I know in California schools have waiting lists. In Oregon, there are no waiting lists. You either get in based on your grades, essay scores, interviews, and life experiences (not necessarily all of these) or you don't. At my school, you get points for the grades earned in 11 classes and then write and essay. Points are given for prior degrees, work experience as a CNA, and previous attempt at getting into nursing school. Yes, call the school and see what the situation is.

All post sound right. I live by two communty colleges that both pick you according to your pre-reques. They also apply in the spring so if you don't have your pre-reques done by then, you have to wait through the summer and the fall. Thats almost six months of waiting with no guarantee. That is a long time to stand still.

I myself am a CNA 1 getting ready to graduate with a BA in Sociology. I'm completing an internship at a mental health faciltiy and I'm not liking social work. Anyway I would have to get a MSW anyway to actually become a clinical social worker not to mention 2 years of another paid internship. Unfortunatly, I am a health and human anatomy nut and I love helping people.

I also was thinking about finishing 2 semesters up to complete my associate degree in medical office administration and later going into health care administration. The more I look at it I realize that I have to be happy with the subjects I'm studying. I've spent 2 years talking about poverty, inequalities, and social problems. Though it is important, I'm ready to get back to studying human anatomy, medical terminology, and health care.

So don't feel bad, I'm at a crucial point myself now. Degree in Sociology and thinking about a good job to get while I slowly take nursing prereques.

what do all of you think what is a good job while your doing your prereques; cna 11, medical receptionist, or a medical assistant.
