RUTGERS ABSN

Published

Hi everyone! I am trying to complete my nursing degree through rutgeres absn program and am applying now for next fall. I am wondering if it is at all possible to work about 20 hours per week part time during this program as i cannot stop working! any info would be fantastic!

I work about 16-20 hours per week while in the ABSN program at RU. Daytime work is IMPOSSIBLE. My work schedules are usually weekends. The first semester (Summer) was incredibly difficult. I would allow from a lot of flexibility in your work schedule if I were you.

Hi Heron, since you were accepted would you mind sharing your GPA from undergrad and prereq grades? Also, did you attend RU for college? Thanks

I received my original nursing degree from Middlesex and went to Rutgers as an RN to get my Bachelors in Nursing, graduating from that program in 2003. My classes were mostly on-line and when I needed to meet on campus, they were in the evening. I worked in my clinicals around my work schedule. I was working full-time at the hospital at the time doing 12 hour shifts and didn't have a problem with completing my coursework. I graduated with High Honors and was invited to join Sigma Theta Tau. I am currently attending Rutgers for my Master's and will be graduating next Spring. I still work full-time and don't have a problem keeping up. I think that as long as you are able to prioritize, you shouldn't have a problem. Of course, I don't have much of a social life during times when school is in session, but you have to have a trade-off.

Hope this helps.

I graduated with honors from RU in 2003. I took 3 pre-reqs (Microbio, Nutrition, Interpersonal Comm) at a community college last year and earned A's in those classes. All other pre-reqs were taken as part of my first undergrad degree. From what I can remember, my grades back then were: Bio 1(C--> first semester in college, didnt know how to study=\), Bio 2 (B), Anat/Physio (A/B+), Psych classes (A), Stat/Calc/Computers (A), Chem 1-2 (B+)...

Hi Heron21, I am applying also. Did you submit your application yet? I guess it would be a different one than I am doing because you are an alum. I heard the ABSN is different from the other programs such as RN->BSN in that it would be VERY hard to work full time, especially the first summer. 20 hours might be a different story though as long as it is flexible and can work around whenever the classes are. I think few are online in the beginning from what I remember at the informational session.

Hi Oneday...I am not applying as I am already enrolled in the ABSN program now. It is in fact impossible to work full time. There is at least one online class per semester. I'm not sure about the RN--> BSN program, but the ABSN is only 14 months with up to 20 students in the program.
