Hi I am starting Roane State at the end of this month. I had my sights set on the HIT program online, but now I am really interested in the LPN-Mobility program. I am wondering if someone could kinda let me know what to expect my first year in school? This semester I will have to take a math class that is required after taking the compass and that is it. After that I am lost, I have an appointment for my student orientation on the 11th but I wanted to see if I could get some answers from here. What basic classes would I have to take before I even Apply for the LPN program? Also What happens if you do not get into the program are you just basically out of luck? Its been 7 years since I have been in school so im totally dumbfounded right now, any help is appreciated, THANKS!!!

Are you currently an LPN?
Check out the RSCC website, in the keyword box type Nursing and it will give you a bunch of info. They recently put a 2010 check list on there, of things you have to have complete before you can apply. You have to have 12 credit hours complete, 3 of those must be a math elective, college algebra or higher. You must also have at least a 2.75. Pass a pre admission test, HESI A2. Also go to one of their info sessions, I went about a month ago and they said between 600-800 people apply each year and only 150-160 get in. Don't let that discourage you, just work really hard to make good grades! Hope this helps! :wink2:
Thank you for the info! I am not an LPN, I am wanting to get to that first. I havent even started school yet so I am at square one right now. I assume then for the next year I pretty much just need to work on core classes then get into the classes towards getting the LPN license. I appreciate the response...I am a little worried about the selection process though....150 out of 800....kinda scary!
If you are talking about Roane State Community College (main campus in Harriman and they have other branches)...just making sure you arent talking about a different Roane State. They dont offer the LPN program. The LPN mobility program is for people that already have their LPN license and want to further their education to RN. The only places I know of that offer the LPN locally are Tennessee Technology Center. Roane State pre-reqs are for the RN program. I dont think there are any pre reqs for the LPN program at TTC. It does seem a little scary to think that many people apply each year, but they said a lot of people are immediately cut because they don't have 12 credit hours, didnt fill out the application correctly, etc so that helps a lot.
Oh my gosh thank you so much,I misunderstood then I guess.... I told you its been a while and this whole medical field is semi-new to me....I guess I am going totally in the wrong direction. I will prob look into tennessee tech then after I finish up this semester..... Thanks again!
No problem! I've been taking my pre-reqs for 3 yrs. I went to Cleveland State and when I transferred to RSCC last yr nothing transferred, so I had to start over. Maybe you could just go straight into the RN program, since you are already going to take some pre reqs this semester and skip the LPN thing. Anywho good luck!! :)
